Housed Bearings - also know as Self Lube units - are used extensively in fabricated machinery as they are easy to fit, maintain and replace. They will cope with initial misalignment , are sealed and pre-greased, have integral shaft locking and simply bolt in to place.

The bearing was packed with fairly heavy grease at manufacture. That was not ideal for my application, a mid speed application, 3,500rpm test bench with capability to go to 6,000rpm. During the first few hours, the bearing became warm in service and ejected some of the grease but that was not a problem. Overall, the bearing is good and works well. I ordered a 2nd bearing as a spare and that is in the spares cupboard but I don't expect the bearing to fail any time soon - happy customer
